Fanakapan prints: publisher routes and edition differences
Fanakapan’s balloon imagery spans screen prints, etchings, pigment prints and individually finished editions. Compare the actual support and proof designation, then follow the publisher or gallery holding the relevant stock.
RELEASE RADAR HQGraffiti Prints lists the numbered Dream etching at £295, while its separately framed printer’s proof is sold out. Its 2025 releases also include Star Man in two finishing treatments. Follow the numbered edition’s exact page for that purchase route; the proof’s frame and sold-out status describe a separate offer. Graffiti Prints artist page.
Ourtypes adds a separate run of typographic and balloon-based releases, including YES-today, Numbers, Chrome 7’s and several Up Yours versions. Its product pages distinguish screen counts, paper, proof labels and hand-finishing. Animal Numbers was offered as a timed release, with the quantity determined by orders, while later Graffiti Prints inventory specifies a final edition of 115. That connection is useful when comparing an original announcement with an existing numbered copy. Ourtypes catalogue.
Follow the physical edition
Believe In Dog illustrates why material belongs in the title or facts panel. The standard paper version is a 24-colour screen print in an edition of 100, while a hand-finished version uses 1mm corroded brass and a run of ten. Those are separate physical configurations, not simply different asking prices for the same sheet. The grey hand-finished paper edition of fifteen provides a third relevant comparison.
Dream is another production route: an image made on a zinc plate and printed through an etching press onto Somerset Velvet paper, then finished in blue and white spray paint. A generic “Fanakapan print” label loses the distinction between that process and the layered screen printing used elsewhere in his catalogue. The edition count and finishing description should travel together in an owner’s record.
Mazel Galerie carries the three Pulling Faces anamorphic smiley colours and selected hand-finished artist proofs. Its complete three-colour set is a bundle, not a fourth smiley subject. Gone Rogue separately lists Maxim × Fanakapan Love Bomb works in paper and aluminium formats; the material and numbered work need to be checked together rather than inferred from the shared collaboration name.
Background that explains the formats
Fanakapan is a London-based British artist with a background in prop-making and early stencil work in Dorset. His painted balloon illusions also extend into objects: URBAN NATION documented him building a large spray-can sculpture at the museum in 2018. That institutional record supports the connection between painted depth and constructed form without making every edition a sculpture. Museum profile.
For the editions covered here, these publisher and gallery pages provide the documented purchase routes. The selection covers representative prints and objects rather than a complete lifetime catalogue.
