Add Fuel and Shepard Fairey’s Frequency is a 2026 screenprint in a signed, numbered edition of 500, originally US$120. It debuted at Subliminal Projects on March 7 before an online allocation through Obey Giant on March 12 at 10 a.m. PDT. The official archive records it as sold out. Both sale opportunities concern the same collaboration and edition; the later online date does not identify a second printing.

Pattern becomes the shared subject

The image brings several patterned fields together along jagged, apparently torn boundaries. A large red Obey star dominates the upper right, while navy and pale-blue tile-like repeats occupy much of the lower half and left edge. Eyes, flowers and small figurative details appear inside those repeating units. The viewer encounters a strong emblem at a distance, then discovers smaller imagery by following the pattern.

The white “rips” do not simply divide one artist’s territory from the other’s. They interrupt repeat structures and reveal adjacent fields, so the image seems to change its own surface as it is examined. This is a visual illusion within the screenprint, not evidence that an impression is physically torn, collaged or individually hand-finished. A seller’s description of torn layers should distinguish the pictured effect from the actual condition and construction of the sheet.

In the artists’ release account, Add Fuel describes reworking motifs from Fairey’s visual vocabulary, while Fairey emphasizes their combination with Portuguese tile references and playful illustration. That account makes the collaboration more specific than a recognizable logo placed over an unrelated decorative background: the repeat itself becomes a meeting place for the two practices.

What changed after Modular

The artists identify Modular (2022) as their first collaboration and Frequency as the second. Add Fuel contrasts the earlier project’s emphasis on construction with the newer work’s emphasis on pattern. For a collection following their partnership, that is the meaningful sequence: a continued exchange of image-making methods, rather than an assumed deluxe upgrade.

The Modular archive gives the same 18-by-24-inch format, an edition of 500, both artists’ signatures and a Verisart certificate, with a US$115 original price. Frequency’s US$5 higher launch price does not accompany a smaller run or larger sheet. Its support is named as thick true-white Speckletone, whereas Modular’s description says thick pure-white paper without naming a stock. The sources therefore establish greater specificity for Frequency, not a proven change of paper brand or quality.

A title that needs both artists

Frequency is also distinct from Fairey’s solo Modular Frequency letterpress, issued in the same season. That smaller cotton-paper edition has 300 numbered impressions and a different composition. Retain both artists’ names and the screenprint medium when identifying Frequency; abbreviating the titles can collapse unrelated physical objects.

The original Subliminal Projects event and subsequent web offer are useful provenance context, but attendance at the event is not established by owning a copy. The two signatures, edition inscription and digital certificate are the announced object-level identifiers. Proof quantities and a separately credited printer remain unannounced; neither a signing photograph nor the edition denominator supplies those missing facts.
