Air Jordan 5 Halloween: black nubuck, Picante Red and the 2026 launch

Jordan’s Air Jordan 5 Halloween is scheduled for October 17, 2026 through US SNKRS. The adult edition, HQ7978-001, costs $215. Official US launch data gives 14:00 UTC, or 10 a.m. Eastern on that date. Black nubuck, Picante Red accents and glow-in-the-dark details establish a Halloween treatment around the familiar AJ5 shape.

The seasonal story is carried by the surfaces

The official image places the red accent on the jagged midsole section, where it interrupts an otherwise dark side profile. The upper, collar and netted panel read together as black; the translucent-looking outsole edge introduces a lighter boundary below them. Nike identifies glow details, but the normal-light product photograph should not be used to infer their brightness or duration. That distinction matters if the lighting effect is the main reason to buy the edition.

Jordan’s Spring 2024 collection offers two revealing AJ5 comparisons. Olive revisited an olive-and-orange treatment first seen in 2006. Halloween similarly uses a strong warm accent, yet its black base and glow theme build a different visual story. For someone collecting colorways of the same model, the difference lies in how the familiar midsole and upper are made to read, rather than the existence of a new silhouette.

The women’s Lucky Green AJ5 in that same collection used pebbled leather and KURIM grid mesh. Halloween specifies nubuck instead. This changes the surface character a collector is choosing: the official image shows a matte upper rather than the visibly pebbled leather described for Lucky Green. Material names are useful here because a black shoe photographed in soft light can conceal more detail than its palette suggests.

An AJ5 identity beneath the theme

Nike connects the net-inspired tongue and quarter panels, shaped collar, lace locks and jagged midsole with the model’s 1990 design. It also lists Air cushioning at heel and forefoot. Those recurring features explain why the themed treatment still reads immediately as an AJ5. They are design specifications, not a firsthand assessment of comfort or court performance.

The US release also separates four sizing products. The adult is $215; Big Kids HQ7980-001 is $155; Little Kids HQ7979-001 is $95; and Toddler HQ7981-001 is $80. Check the intended code before comparing listings, because the shared Halloween name does not establish an adult configuration.
