Brand at a glance
Official website ↗New Balance offers several different ways into sneaker collecting. A recurring heritage edition, a seasonal Made colorway and a collaborator’s redesign may share a manufacturer while serving very different purposes. Knowing which kind of release you are looking at is more useful than treating every numbered shoe as part of one continuous series.
The Boston company traces its independence to 1906 and maintains footwear manufacturing in New England and Flimby in the United Kingdom. Its Made in USA definition is specific: footwear in that program contains at least 70 percent domestic value. That description should not be expanded into a claim that every component, or every New Balance shoe, is American-made. The manufacturing label is one part of a model’s identity, alongside its version, materials and release year.
The 1300JP shows how a production story becomes a collecting tradition. The original 1300 arrived in 1985, pairing premium nubuck and mesh with full-length ENCAP cushioning. New Balance connects its Japanese following to close attention to construction and craftsmanship. The first JP reissue followed in 1995, establishing a five-year return cycle that continued with the 2025 edition made in Skowhegan, Maine. Here, the appeal is continuity and the opportunity to compare successive interpretations of a familiar design.
Seasonal Made collections work differently. The Fall/Winter 2026 program spans seven phases and several silhouettes, including the 990v4, 993, 1300 and 992. Suede, mesh, nubuck and leather combinations change across those releases. A collector interested in texture or a particular palette therefore has a different selection problem from someone following the 1300JP’s anniversary cadence. The season name does not mean every shoe launches on the first day.
Collaborations can change the silhouette’s visual character more substantially. Aimé Leon Dore’s Gator Run uses cream nylon and hairy suede, with its Queens crest at the heel. That soft surface treatment contrasts with the glossy, crocodile-embossed leather of the Gator Run’s 2026 introduction. GANNI takes another route: its 1906L collaboration brings snake print and metal branding to a loafer derived from a running-shoe platform. These are differences in construction and design intent, not simply extra names attached to a standard colorway.
For practical release tracking, start with the US launch calendar and then open the exact product page. Model version, style code, color and market should agree. A US listing does not establish another country’s price or stock, and an archived launch date does not promise a restock. The release pages below separate those offer details from the longer design history.
