Vhils at Vera Cortês: four carved-poster works from 2026

Two same-size Interval works, a compact Iris and a much larger Density portrait, compared through exact support descriptions and gallery imagery.

Four works dated 2026 appear in Galeria Vera Cortês’s Vhils inventory: Interval Series #05, Interval Series #08, Iris Series #04 and Density series #07. All involve carved advertising posters, but the captions distinguish one metal-based work and three expressly described as unique. Together they provide a focused comparison of how a fragmented crowd, an isolated eye and a larger face occupy differently sized surfaces. The gallery page identifies the objects; it does not supply a common launch date, a price list or a named exhibition for this four-work selection.

Two Interval works, the same measurements

Both Interval Series #05 and #08 measure 175 × 122 cm. Number 05 is specifically described as metal-base hand-carved advertising posters. Number 08 is described as hand-carved advertising posters, without an additional base material identified. Matching dimensions and a shared series name therefore do not establish matching construction. A buyer comparing the pair has a clear dimensional comparison, but only one explicit metal-support description; weight, depth and mounting cannot be borrowed from one object to fill the other’s missing specifications.

The official photographs also give each number a distinct visual identity. Number 05 distributes fragments of faces among vertical divisions and patches of yellow and green. Number 08 is more heavily interrupted by hanging-looking white strips, with facial fragments concentrated toward the right. These differences are useful when matching a condition report or gallery photograph to the title: the similar overall proportions alone would be insufficient. Neither image is presented as an interchangeable example of the other work.

An eye at 106 centimetres, a face at 201

Iris Series #04 measures 106 × 78 cm, while Density series #07 measures 201 × 140 cm. Density is almost twice as tall and substantially wider. Its listed rectangular footprint is about 3.4 times that of Iris, calculated from the gallery’s dimensions; the actual carved edges are irregular. Reproducing the two at equal thumbnail size would suppress that difference, so the measurements matter as much as the portrait motif when judging their relationship.

The compositions reinforce the change of scale without simply enlarging one image. Iris concentrates its dark detail around a single eye and brow, leaving a broad pale field below. Density presents a larger portion of a face, with blue, black and orange remnants cutting through it. Iris therefore gives a closer crop on a smaller support; Density retains more facial information across a much larger surface. Those are observations of the specific gallery images, rather than a claim that every work in either series follows the same formula.

What the captions establish about the objects

The gallery explicitly labels Interval Series #08, Iris Series #04 and Density series #07 unique. Its Interval Series #05 caption does not include that word, so its edition status remains unconfirmed here. The series numbers are part of the artwork titles and do not disclose an edition size. No signature, certificate, framing or first-sale terms accompany these four captions. Vera Cortês remains the documented source for an object-specific enquiry; inclusion in the artist inventory does not by itself confirm present availability. Likewise, the work year dates the object, not a purchase opportunity or exhibition opening.
