Brain Dead’s adidas Bowling Leopard: a 1978 reference for everyday wear

The Brain Dead x adidas Bowling in Leopard is a lifestyle interpretation of an archival shoe, with an important practical distinction: Brain Dead says it is not intended for actual bowling gameplay. Its rubber sole belongs under an everyday outfit, even though the shape looks back to a 1978 design. adidas’s US product page identifies the brown edition as KH8143 and lists it at $250.

The October release announcement sets the launch for October 8, 2026, alongside a second version with snakeskin-inspired leather. Distribution includes CONFIRMED, selected adidas stores and retailers, and Brain Dead’s own shop. adidas describes the pairs as available in limited quantities, but gives no numbered production total. That supports a bounded release description, not a prediction about resale prices or how quickly a particular size will sell.

The pattern changes the shoe’s visual weight

In the official product image, the tan-and-black leopard pattern covers a low upper, with cream serrated stripes, dark laces and a black sole framing it. Gold lateral branding identifies the partnership without competing with the pattern. Compared with the snakeskin-inspired sibling, the Leopard edition uses warmer colors and a more visibly irregular surface. Choosing between them is largely a decision about texture and contrast on the same recognizable shape, rather than an upgrade in underlying purpose.

There is a useful comparison within Brain Dead’s earlier adidas work. The Spring/Summer 2025 Forest Hills collaboration also used hairy suede and contrasting colors, but its starting point was a tennis shoe introduced in 1976. The Bowling shoe moves away from that familiar court-sneaker framing toward a flatter, more dress-adjacent profile. For someone already collecting Brain Dead’s tennis interpretations, this release adds a different archival reference instead of simply extending the same model’s color range.

The partnership’s chronology also matters. adidas traces the Bowling project to a 2024 friends-and-family release, followed by wider distribution and a Dover Street Market collaboration. The 2026 animal-pattern versions belong later in that sequence. A listing described only as “Brain Dead Bowling” may therefore refer to another release; match the pattern and KH8143 identifier before comparing offers.

Brain Dead specifies US men’s sizing and recommends sizing up when between sizes, while adidas’s page recommends the usual size.
