UnHINged: 24 finished prints, eight proofs and a gold 1/1

Cultprint’s 2024 release revisits Rainbow Boy ten years after the Hin Bus Depot mural. The main edition’s individual finishes sit within a clearly separated family.

UnHINged’s main edition consists of 24 individually hand-finished prints published by Cultprint in 2024. Spray paint is applied over archival pigment printing on 310 gsm Hahnemühle German Etching paper, specified as 100% alpha-cellulose. The product page gives dimensions of 83×65 cm and now marks the main run sold out. The publisher’s announcement scheduled the online release for July 4, 2024. Main-edition record.

The release marked ten years since Zacharevic painted Rainbow Boy at Hin Bus Depot. Cultprint says the edition had first appeared at the Art Is Still Rubbish exhibition before reaching the online community. That sequence separates the earlier exhibition presentation from the later online sale; the web opening should not erase the work’s prior release context.

Individually finished does not erase the denominator

Cultprint describes the main prints as unique in their finishing and warns that each can differ from the displayed photograph. Nevertheless, they belong to a numbered edition of 24. That is a different claim from a single standalone 1/1: the run has a shared edition identity, with copy-level variation inside it. For an exact-copy offer, a photograph of the particular impression is more informative than the main product thumbnail.

The broader family adds eight variant artist proofs and one gold 1/1. The proof product allows selection among numbered variants, with individual sold-out states, while the gold work has its own product page and 24-carat gold description. Those are not nine additional ordinary copies to fold into a main run of 33. The main edition, proof configuration and unique gold work each need their own labels. Publisher’s family announcement.

A different way of revisiting a mural

Cultprint’s restored George Town mural prints from later in 2024 use another structure: four subjects, each with a main limitation of 4,500 and a separate AP offer. The mural connection alone cannot tell a collector which edition system applies. UnHINged’s smaller, spray-finished main run should be identified through its title, paper, dimensions and edition designation rather than grouped with every Zacharevic mural print.

The main product says print numbers were assigned in purchase order. It does not promise that a buyer could choose a particular finish from the whole 24, and the surviving image is representative. The announcement transposes the two dimension values relative to the product page, so the pair of measurements is secure while orientation should be checked on the exact sheet. No current main-edition purchase should be inferred from the still-accessible historical listing.
