The Sower: bronze edition of 18, sold out
James Jean The Sower: signed bronze edition of 18, HK$78,500, sold out at DDT Store. Exact dimensions, material and reported original draw details.
RELEASE RADAR HQDDT Store’s James Jean bronze is an edition of 18, signed and numbered, measuring 30 × 14 × 22.9 cm. The HK$78,500 offer is sold out.
The Sower’s bronze material and edition of 18 distinguish it from Jean’s resin sculptures. The June 4 draw opening was reported by New Art Editions; no new allocation or shipping window is confirmed.
Collector context
The Sower turns James Jean’s intertwined organic imagery into a bronze sculpture. The DDT Store product page lists a signed and numbered edition of 18, measuring 30 × 14 × 22.9 cm, at HK$78,500. The seated figure and its branching, mushroom-like forms give the small object a complex silhouette.
The bronze format separates it from Jean’s larger paper editions. Its colored surfaces and projecting forms change with the viewing angle, while the compact dimensions make scale an important consideration when comparing photographs with the physical sculpture.
Bronze and resin are different collecting propositions
The Sower is much smaller in height than Jean’s Pan’s Labyrinth anniversary sculpture, and its bronze construction gives it a distinct material identity. That is a useful comparison within the artist’s sculptural releases, without treating the two objects as versions of the same work. Their collaborators, subject matter, production limitations and allocation histories remain separate.
The projecting organic forms make depth and viewing position especially relevant. The published measurements describe a compact sculpture, but its silhouette is intended to be encountered around an object rather than within a flat image. A collector considering placement can use all three dimensions to judge the space it requires; a large product photograph is a poor guide to physical scale.
The eighteen-copy edition is a documented limitation, not proof of a particular resale price or speed of sellout. The HK-dollar original offer is likewise a historical channel price, rather than a current valuation for any later transaction. For an edition this specific, the strongest comparison points are the bronze medium, exact dimensions, signature and numbering, supported by the seller’s documentation.
DDT’s out-of-stock status closes the currently observed direct purchase route. A waiting list may be useful for receiving an update, but it does not establish that additional pieces will be allocated. The release remains a reference point for Jean’s small bronze editions even when there is no active buying window.
