Style IQ5339-400 returns the original Blue Lagoon colorway with full-length Air Zoom strobel, Cushlon 3.0 foam, mesh and a carbon wing. That cushioning setup is the material change from the original Kobe X.

The adult US $200 release opened October 5; specialist reporting placed the original opening at 10 a.m. ET. Nike’s October 6 product state shows active stock in some sizes. The US $125 Big Kids pair is separate style IV5463-400; adult pricing and stock do not apply to it.

Collector context

Blue Lagoon reaches back to the beginning of the Kobe X, then changes what sits beneath it. Nike identifies this as the return of the original launch colorway, a blue-and-black design associated with Bryant’s recovery from injury. The returning palette makes the connection immediate; the Protro label signals that the shoe belongs to a different construction generation.

The original Kobe X was unveiled in January 2015. Nike’s Kobe Vault account describes a low-cut, open-weave textile upper inspired by sharkskin, with Lunarlon cushioning, a Zoom Air unit and Nike Free-inspired grooves. Its outsole used small rubber nodules informed by racing-tire tread. Later that year, the family expanded into both high- and low-cut Flyknit versions. That history matters here: the mesh launch shoe and the later knitted editions were distinct expressions of the tenth model even before its Protro return.

The color’s other name, “5 AM Flight,” supplies the human part of the story. Kicks On SI traces it to Bryant jumping from a high diving platform in August 2013 while recovering from his torn Achilles. The early-morning leap became a reference for overcoming fear, then informed the 2015 colorway. The 2026 pair carries that story in small details: four red stitches on the left heel reference surgery, while a gold X beneath the translucent outsole marks his tenth signature model. Against the blue upper and black Swooshes, those accents make the recovery narrative more specific than a familiar team-color treatment.

For the new build, Nike’s model announcement specifies full-length Zoom Strobel and Cushlon 3.0 in place of the original Lunarlon-and-heel-Zoom arrangement. Nike also describes a wider forefoot, revised engineered mesh and a reworked outsole, while retaining the carbon-fiber forefoot wing. The important comparison is where the components change: cushioning, upper geometry and traction have been reconsidered, while one recognizable support element remains. The old heel-focused air unit gives way to cushioning extending the length of the footbed.

Blue Lagoon follows the all-white Halo debut in the mesh branch of the Protro. Nike’s guide to the two constructions separately schedules Flyknit and ZoomX versions for 2027. For someone drawn to the original Kobe X, this release therefore offers a particular combination: the debut color story, the low mesh silhouette and the current cushioning package. The nostalgia is concentrated in the appearance and narrative; the underfoot construction is the new chapter.
