Nouveau Angel is Shepard Fairey’s June 18, 2026 screenprint joining Art Nouveau-inspired ornament with an explicitly stated appeal for peace and justice. The Obey Giant release opened at 10 a.m. PDT with an original price of $65. The print measures 24 by 18 inches, on 80-pound cream Speckletone paper, in a signed and numbered edition of 550. Obey’s archive records it as sold out; no later release is established here.

A balanced figure inside a downward-pointing frame

The angel stands centrally with arms raised into spreading wings. Leaf forms echo the wings’ upward curve, while the body descends to a lotus and the inverted triangle enclosing the Obey face. The dark central field narrows toward the bottom; lighter ornament occupies the outer corners. This gives the composition two opposing movements: the angel and foliage open outward, while the triangle gathers the image toward a point.

“Peace” and “Justice” flank the body at the same height, making the symmetry argumentative as well as decorative. Neither word is placed above the other. The cream figure and linework sit against blue-green and dark fields, creating a restrained emblem rather than a portrait of an identified person. Read as visual interpretation, the layout makes protection and balance its organizing principles. It does not require treating the angel as a representation of a specific religious figure.

What the Nouveau reference contributes

In the release statement, Fairey links Art Nouveau’s floral and female forms to his view of women as leaders in building a more peaceful and just society. That is his stated route to the subject. The visible repetition of leaves and the continuous relationship between figure and ornament support a reading in which nature is part of the image’s structure, rather than an unrelated floral border added around a political slogan.

The adjacent 2026 Spring Forth screenprint also joins a female figure with floral and patterned material, but its portrait is embedded in a busier, layered field with strong diagonals. Nouveau Angel instead depends on bilateral balance and a complete winged figure. Because the two share the same announced dimensions, paper and edition size, that difference is principally one of visual organization rather than a hierarchy of formats. A collector building a group around Fairey’s figures and ornament can therefore make an image-led comparison without attributing an unsupported rarity advantage to either.

Identify the issue without losing the design

The signature, edition inscription and supplied Verisart digital certificate establish the announced edition’s identifying features; the archive image alone cannot authenticate a particular offered sheet. The outer cream margin also separates the dense ornamental field from its surroundings. Preserve that margin in condition photographs rather than cropping directly to the artwork, especially when comparing a loose print with a framed example. The source does not separately credit a printer or quantify proofs, so those details should remain open rather than being inferred from other Obey releases.
