Shepard Fairey’s Blue and Mauve Pixies Royal Albert screenprints commemorate different dates at the same venue. Blue carries May 28, 2026, while Mauve carries May 29. Obey Giant offered additional quantities of both online on May 29 at 10 a.m. PDT, after announcing that limited quantities would be available at the Royal Albert Hall shows. A date printed in the artwork therefore identifies its concert reference; it does not, by itself, establish when or where an individual copy was sold.

The date is part of the variant

Both prints measure 24 by 18 inches and use 80-pound cream Speckletone paper. Each is a signed, numbered edition of 300, originally $65, with a Verisart digital certificate. Obey’s archive records both as sold out. The evidence does not assign a verified quantity to either concert merchandise allocation, nor does it establish that one color was sold exclusively on one night. For a concert-goer seeking a memento of a particular performance, the printed date is useful; for a provenance claim about a show-purchased impression, a receipt or other purchase record is still needed.

The images share a woman in a wrapped headdress, a circular winged-P emblem between her hands and the Royal Albert Hall facade below. A structure of radiating lines connects the figure to the emblem, giving the composition a theatrical, poster-within-a-poster quality. The venue is visible architecture, not merely a line of small print. That makes these specifically Royal Albert Hall posters rather than generic band portraits with interchangeable location text.

Color changes where the eye lands

In Blue, red lightning-like bars cross the cooler field and meet the red ring around the P, echoing the red lips. Those sparse warm accents concentrate attention around the emblem and face. Mauve uses a warmer pink-purple field with gold-toned rays, while the crossing bars and architecture are blue-green. The geometric plan stays constant, but the emphasis shifts: Blue isolates small flashes of red; Mauve distributes warmth more broadly across the figure and background. That is a visible compositional difference, not evidence that either variant used more inks or a more elaborate printing process.

Fairey’s announcement names Art Deco and film noir as references, explaining that he drew on aspects of the band’s existing visual world. The tall lettering, radiating geometry and staged central figure make that stated direction legible without borrowing the appearance of a documentary concert photograph. The result offers the collector an artist’s interpretation of the band rather than an image of its members performing.

Choosing one, documenting two

There is no announced difference in edition size, format or price to make one version structurally rarer than the other. A choice can instead follow the concert date or the palette. For a pair, record both full titles and both edition inscriptions; the source does not promise matching numbers. Preserving those distinctions keeps the May 29 online sale from erasing the two dates embedded in the artworks themselves.
