iPhone 18 Pro: US price, storage and release details
iPhone 18 Pro starts at US $1,199: 6.3-inch display, 256GB–2TB storage and variable-aperture camera. Compare configurations and the September 18 release.
RELEASE RADAR HQiPhone 18 Pro launched in the US on September 18, 2026, from US $1,199. Preorders opened September 12 at 5 a.m. PDT. Choose a configuration at Apple; inventory depends on finish, storage and delivery location.
Configuration differences
The 6.3-inch Pro comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, with Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy finishes. A20 Pro and the 48MP variable-aperture Main camera are the principal hardware changes. The 6.9-inch Pro Max is a separate model, so its starting price and battery claims should not be applied here. US models require eSIM carrier support.
Collector context
iPhone 18 Pro’s camera change is easiest to understand beside the 17 Pro: the new model lets the photographer change the lens opening itself. The previous Main camera used a fixed ƒ/1.78 aperture. Apple’s September 2026 introduction describes a six-blade mechanism that can open wider or stop down. That makes aperture another decision at capture, alongside framing and timing, rather than simply another number on the camera specification sheet.
Apple illustrates the distinction with two opposing situations: admitting more light in a dark scene and keeping people at different distances sharp in a group photograph. The camera can select aperture automatically, while Pro controls expose manual aperture, shutter speed and white balance plus a histogram. These are Apple’s stated capabilities. The practical appeal is to a photographer who wants to make a deliberate exposure or depth-of-field choice without leaving the built-in Camera app. Apple’s camera explanation
That new control sits on an established Pro foundation. The 17 Pro generation already brought three 48MP rear cameras, the 18MP Center Stage front camera and vapor-chamber cooling. The meaningful comparison is therefore about how photographs are made, rather than treating the shared camera resolution as evidence of a complete replacement. An owner of that model has a different upgrade question from someone whose phone lacks its telephoto or professional capture options.
Original testing adds a useful operational detail. In his week with both sizes, TechRadar’s Jacob Krol found that shutter and aperture settings could persist when preservation was enabled, but exact combinations could not be saved as custom presets. For someone alternating between a fixed interview setup and spontaneous shooting, retaining the last settings and recalling several prepared setups are different conveniences. His finding describes the launch software, not a permanent hardware restriction.
The filmmaking workflow also developed after launch. Final Cut Camera 2.4, released September 29, added variable-aperture control and shutter-priority or aperture-priority shooting. It also enabled Cinematic effects for regular video, including ProRes and Apple Log, with focus and depth adjustment in Final Cut Pro. This gives filmmakers a separate route into the lens control rather than making the built-in Camera interface the whole story.
There is a smaller-body configuration change, too. The 17 Pro stopped at 1TB while 2TB belonged to Pro Max; 18 Pro offers 2TB in either size. A creator carrying a large local media library no longer needs the larger phone solely for that capacity. At entry level, Apple’s 2025 and 2026 launch prices put the 256GB Pro at $1,099 and $1,199 respectively: a $100 increase with the same starting storage.
