Hyrule Switch Lite: a gold Zelda edition built for handheld play

The September 26, 2024 US Hyrule Edition pairs a gold Switch Lite with a 12-month online membership. It remains a distinct older-generation system.

The Hyrule Edition Switch Lite is a historical Zelda hardware release, originally dated September 26, 2024, rather than a newly announced anniversary console. Nintendo’s US product page identifies SKU 121164 and describes a gold-colored system with the Hylian Crest on its back. The decoration has a clear collector purpose, but the underlying machine remains a Switch Lite.

That means integrated controls and a compact body designed around handheld play. Nintendo specifies support for physical and digital original-Switch games that offer Handheld mode. The edition’s appeal is consequently quite different from buying a decorative docked system: the object you hold is the complete visual focus. It suits a collection organized around distinctive portable hardware, provided that portable use matches what you need from a playing system.

Compare it with the Tears of the Kingdom OLED edition. That earlier Zelda system includes detachable Joy-Con controllers and a decorated television dock, and Nintendo describes three play modes. The Hyrule Lite concentrates its identity into one enclosure instead. A buyer choosing between them is choosing a different physical format as well as different artwork; the shared Zelda association does not remove that practical trade-off.

The US offer includes a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual Membership. That is a separate entitlement from a physical game in the box. By contrast, the Philippine Animal Crossing Lite bundles explicitly describe a packaged game. This comparison is useful when reading listings from different countries: a console’s design name is insufficient evidence for the exact bonus supplied with every regional package.

For an opened or previously owned Hyrule system, establish whether any advertised membership is still redeemable before treating it as part of the value. The original inclusion does not prove that a used copy contains an unused code. Likewise, a surviving official product page establishes the edition’s identity and contents, not a fresh allocation or current retailer stock.

The newer Zelda 40th-anniversary Switch 2 creates another important distinction. It belongs to Switch 2, while this Hyrule edition belongs to the original Switch family. Owners interested in newer accessories should check each one individually: Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller FAQ expressly excludes use with the original Switch. An anniversary controller and gold Lite can make a visually related collection without forming a compatible play setup. The strongest reason to choose the Hyrule Lite is its particular portable design, with the older platform’s limits understood, rather than an assumption that every Zelda-branded piece will work together.
