Shepard Fairey’s Final Damnation 50: the tour image and the edition

A 400-copy Damned anniversary print shares its format with Siouxsie, 1978. Their image histories offer the more useful comparison.

Shepard Fairey’s Final Damnation 50 marks The Damned’s 50th anniversary tour with a signed, numbered screenprint edition of 400. OBEY specifies a 24-inch-high by 18-inch-wide print on 80# cream Speckletone paper, with a Verisart digital certificate. When checked on October 17, 2026, the official shop listed US$75 and a limit of one print per customer or household.

The tour connection has a personal history in Fairey’s account. He recalls first hearing The Damned perform “Nasty” on The Young Ones, shown on MTV, in the mid-1980s. Searching for a record with that song led him instead to Damned Damned Damned, which he says contains two of his favorite Damned tracks, “Neat Neat Neat” and “New Rose.” His announcement connects the new tour artwork to his account of discovering the band and seeing it live.

A shared format, two image histories

Fairey’s Siouxsie, 1978 print offers a comparison within the same paper format. OBEY identifies its starting point as a Kate Simon photograph taken in London’s Ladbroke Grove in 1978. Fairey describes making his illustration from that photograph and working with Siouxsie and her management on the portrait. The year in its title identifies the historical image; it does not date the new screenprint.

For a collection built around music imagery, the distinction matters: Final Damnation 50 commemorates a band’s anniversary tour, while Siouxsie, 1978 reinterprets a named photographer’s earlier portrait. Choosing between them can turn on the tour association or the photographic lineage. Their shared artist and music subjects do not give them the same origin story.

The physical comparison is closer. Both editions use the same stated size and paper, carry Fairey’s signature, and include a Verisart digital certificate. Siouxsie, 1978 has 600 numbered copies to Final Damnation 50’s 400. That separates the edition sizes without establishing demand, resale value or how many copies remain available. The shared dimensions and paper leave edition size and documented image history as the clearest stated differences between the two prints.
