Bottleneck Gallery released Tyler Stout’s Grateful Dead print on April 3, 2025 at noon Eastern. The regular is an 18 × 24 inch screen print, hand numbered in an edition of 350, with an original price of $60. The publisher listing is now sold out.

This page covers the regular edition. Bottleneck’s release also included Variant A in an edition of 175 at $70, Variant B and Variant C in editions of 125 at $80 each, an acrylic-panel edition of 100 at $90, and a four-print set at $280. Those are separate offers even though they share the same central composition.

Collector context

Stout treats the commission as a dense visual history rather than a single portrait. Skeletons, roses, butterflies, a guitar, the dancing bears, the lightning-bolt skull and San Francisco references occupy one continuous field. The regular’s warm cream paper tone, deep navy and muted red-green palette make the motifs feel connected to concert-poster history without simply imitating a vintage handbill.

The useful comparison is not “regular versus rare.” Each paper version changes color relationships across a composition with a great deal of fine line work. Variant identity should be established from the colorway and publisher description, then checked against the number on the sheet. The acrylic panel is a different material object and should never be catalogued as another paper colorway.

The release’s edition math also matters. The regular edition of 350 is independent of the 175/125/125 paper variants and the acrylic edition of 100. A matching-number set was a publisher offer, but matching numbers do not erase the fact that four individual paper editions exist. A seller describing a complete set should show all four sheets and their numbers.

What to verify on a copy

Confirm the 18 × 24 inch format, exact colorway, hand-numbering and any signature or AP notation visible on the sheet. Ask for photographs of the entire front, all corners and the numbering area. Rolled screen prints can develop soft handling bends or edge compression that disappears in a distant framed photograph.

Look closely at dense dark passages and broad flat color. Scuffing can appear as a dull interruption in otherwise even ink, while a crease may become clearer under side lighting. If the work is framed, request documentation of the mounting method and a photograph out of the frame when practical; archival materials do not prove that the sheet was never hinged or trimmed.

The original $60 publisher price is release history, not a current appraisal. Bottleneck’s sold-out page establishes the primary specification and closed direct channel. Any later offer needs its own seller, condition and provenance assessment.
